Our Story
Culpeper County Child Care was founded in 1990 as the result of a task force evaluating child care and a grant awarded to Culpeper Social Services to meet child care needs in the County. The grant funded the establishment of an afterschool program at Farmington Elementary School for kindergarteners through third graders as participants. On November 13, 1990, the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors and School Board approved a county-wide afterschool program and over the remaining school year (1990-1991), the program was phased in at all elementary school locations. A before-school program began during the 1991-1992 school year.
Culpeper County Child Care is operated under the “umbrella” of Culpeper Human Services as a fully licensed child care center that offers affordable child care while also providing a safe and enriching environment. Before and After School programs are now offered at six elementary school sites in Culpeper and preschool programs are offered on site at Galbreath Marshall Center in Culpeper.
We are dedicated to providing quality care that meets individual needs of children by planning environments and activities that considers the social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs of each developmental stage; please take an opportunity to see more about our program by taking a look at our regular newsletter and current program menu.

Our staff consists of energetic, creative people who enjoy interacting with children, presenting fun activities and making sure that each child feels like a part of the group. Each staff member has to undergo CPS and background checks and receive ongoing training throughout the year. Each site has at least 2 people certified in First Aid and CPR. Team Leaders provide ongoing oversight to other staff and receive annual mandatory child care training each year along with additional elective trainings in the areas of special needs, creative activities, health and nutrition. State licensing requirements are exceeded by providing an average teacher-child ratio of 1:6 in preschool and 1:13 in school age. There are always at least 3 staff members on site at each site at all times.
